DEALING WITH THE ART MARKET: A PANEL FORUM

Moderated by Ma. Victoria Herrera of the CCP Visual Arts Division

In line with the ongoing 13 Artists Awards exhibit at the Cultural Center of the Philippines, a series of forums has been organized to discuss different aspects of contemporary art practice. Dealing with the Art Market aims to address how artists and key players in the art scene engage with the market and the business aspects of art. This will not necessarily focus on the idea of being “commercially viable” or making it big in the auction circuit, rather, the forum aims to touch on ways by which artists are able to balance creative and business concerns

The 13 Artists Awards forum series is made possible with support from the Metrobank Foundation, Inc.

The “F” Word: Fake, Fraud, and Forgery

By Cid Reyes

The history and techniques of fakes, frauds and forgeries in the art world will set the stage for a discussion of the issue in a Philippine context. There is a cottage industry of art forgery as well as a market for fakes and a culture of secrecy that pervades all these elements. Spotting fake artwork and the necessary question of what can be done to stop art forgery will be discussed as well.
